Just what ARE we supposed to do with our 3D discs if future TVs won't display them?

3D HDTVs, Projectors and Displays - Blu-ray Forum - forum.blu-ray.com
Posting this almost drunk so forgive the tone- I know some trolls will give their thoughts but I honestly don't give a crap. I'm thinking in 15-20 years from now, if the current 3D standard isn't brought back on new TVs by then, what the f--- is going to happen to our collections? Will there be some sort of home-made device that'll at least make passive 3D work on any TV? Are we just supposed to watch them in boring 2D, or throw them away? Has ANYONE in the industry even THOUGHT about this? There are HUNDREDS of titles out there, and a few people actually bought them.

I ask this because this is the FIRST innovation to home video that is threatened with being unusable in the future. I have Beta tapes that are 40 years old that still play on new TVs with the right equipment. (If TVs ever drop analog inputs I've even got equipment to convert it to HDMI, in fact I watch all my old stuff upscaled to 4K that way.) It sucks enough to stop producing 3D content, but it sucks even more to not be able to watch what's already been put out. This is why I bought a new TV last year when this news broke out, I don't know how long it'll last but I'm prepared to keep it longer than any I've had before (my previous record was 13 years, a 40-inch Mitsubishi CRT. It still works but was incredibly obsolete by the time I replaced it.)

I swear that NOTHING the consumer electronics industry, which I've spent untold thousands of dollars on since 1987, has ever done has pissed me off as much as this. (3D was ALWAYS THE thing I was waiting for, if you'd have told me 30 years ago that it would become a reality but be discontinued due to lack of interest, I might've punched you.) I don't know if any industry people read this but just wanted to put this out there before I pass out for the night.
