"Series" wiring volume controller?

Receivers, Amps, and Processors - www.avsforum.com
Can this be done? From Amplifier Channel A Right (+) to Right (+) on volume controller (VC), then run a jumper from Right (-) on VC to Left (+) on VC, then run Left (-) VC back to Channel A Right (-) on amplifier.

(The VC would then control a single pair of speakers)

Basically, it's like series wiring a single volume controller so that I can run two volume controllers from one channel.

Or is there a much better way to run two volume controllers from one channel?
