Whole home audio wiring help

Audio theory, Setup and Chat - www.avsforum.com
Hey guys and gals, I need some assistance with my home audio system. When I bought my new house the builder included wiring and speakers throughout the house. In my master bedroom I have a 4 wire feed from my bonus room to an outlet that allows for a volume control install. From that box I have a left and right feed to the two speakers in my bedroom, as well as a left and right feed that go to a dual voice coil in the master bathroom. The issue I have is that when I connect all of the wiring (assuming I splice the 4 wires to the bathroom and the 4 to the bedroom together) and install them all to the volume control, the lowest position, which should be 'off' still passes through audio.... move the slider up to the second position and the volume drops, then continue to slide it up and it starts to function normally again. If I disconnect one side of the feed to the bathroom (Dvc speaker) it seems to function as it should. I guess the question is..... am I messing up the wiring or does my issue have something to do with the impedance matching jumpers on the volume control? I have tried adjusting the jumpers all over the place but that seems to make no difference. TIA for any help or suggestions !
