23 Gauge Trim Nailer

I'm planning on painting my trim black before install since I have no desire to try and paint it once it's on the wall up against the fabric. Since flat black shows everything (brush marks, touch ups, etc), I was thinking of a 23 gauge pin gun for the install.

Most places I've looked recommend some adhesive on the back of the trim. The problem is that the trim is covering up the fabric edges, so you'd have the adhesive having to work though the fabric.

The backer is 1" plywood on the walls, so I'd have some bite. I could use the adhesive on the columns if I needed to since there isn't any fabric and it's only MDF.

Has anyone used a 23 gauge pin gun for base, crown and chair successfully?
