How do I add another pull chain light in my basement?

Electrical - A/C & D/C - DoItYourself.com Community Forums - www.doityourself.com
I think I have 4 or 5 lights that are ceramic pull-chain types in the basement and I want to add another over by my workbench. I'm about 4 feet from another pull-chain light. Do I just run a wire from that light to my new light?

Excuse my ignorance because I've never done this before. I realize that a "standard house electrical wire" has a black, a white and a ground within it. I can see this "white" wire running along the joists in the basement with staples. Am I correct in that you can't just cut on of those wires and run another wire from that to your new light connected with wire nuts?

Thanks
