Marantz SLT-12U - Destination TT for me

Turntables | Audiokarma Home Audio Stereo Discussion Forums - audiokarma.org
I spotted this legendary linear tracking Marantz SLT-12U in a craigslist furniture ad for a vintage credenza and read as much as I could about it before picking it up. Many posts suggested it is exceptionally finicky, dependent on perfect leveling, and doesn't sound that great even if properly set up. Purely a novelty. Well I'm just here to report my experience in which exactly none of those descriptions were accurate. This is the finest TT I've ever heard and it plays the hell out of the most beat LPs I've got. All it needed was a new belt and a bit of cleaning. Came with Shure V15 Type II Improved and original stylus. I picked up a new LP Gear VividLine stylus for it and it tracks through everything, with tremendous dynamics and stereo separation and the least sibilance I've heard I on some of my crappiest records. And it is just fun to move and drop that unique arm. They appear to be awfully rare, but if you have a chance to pick one up I'd strongly recommend it.
