12v Step light wiring

General Home Theater & Media/Game Rooms - www.avsforum.com
Hey all,

I'm figuring out the wiring plan for my riser but have never installed 12v lights indoors. I've done all sorts of other electrical modifications though, and I've found these led "step" lights (okay I can't post links... so on super bright leds dot com --> LED Step Lights - Hooded Rectangular Deck / Step Accent Light) that will work perfectly for my situation. They are actually automotive led lights being cross promoted but hey, who cares? They are inexpensive and hopefully easy to install.

My question regarding these are about where they connect inside the riser. The plan is to have a dimmable switch in front of the led driver and simply wire all the steps from the driver (8 led lights total is < 4 watts... however since these are not encapsulated the connections for the devices would not be self contained... Do 12v connections require "junction" boxes for connections?

The actual installation will be pretty simple but I want to make sure it's safe.

Thanks,

Jeff
