Audio Measurement Standards
I'm curious as to what, exactly, are today's audio measurement standards?
I've seen several era's myself, all of which had their own unique way or style of specifying the performance of a piece of audio equipment, many of which were so laughably ridiculous as to be worthless, right up to the FTC methods that bordered on virtually torture testing power amps with their ''pre-conditioning'' requirements.
It seems that very few companies actually qualify their claims properly these days. For example, they just state whatever wattage they feel like, with no reference whatsoever to distortion or bandwidth. At one time, this would have been a major no-no!
Well, what are today's actual standards? Are there legal requirements vis-a-vis compliance? Is this even regulated anymore? Or are we back to the days of 1 million watts of megapeak cosmic lightning power?
