Black scenes are too dark

I own a Sony XBR-43X830C. The scenes with light are great. But with the scenes that are dark everything is black including the faces.
Are there settings I can change to fix this? Related messages While watching movies on FIOS, I noticed on very dark scenes, in the darkest areas, the picture seems to be breaking up a bit. It is temporary and disappears after the scene lightens up. Is it due to the settings, being too dark? Any help is appreciated.
Why can you see more macroblocking in dark scenes, than in light scenes? I don't see much if any macroblocking anymore in Blu-rays but I definitely see it in 1080i TV shows.
