Got a FREE unworking Samsung 64D8000. Worth it?
I'm at my storage unit and a guys says I can take his TV if I wanted it. Said that his wife told him it only needed a $20 part.
Get it home & it doesn't make a bootup sound & no picture.
Tested power board with voltmeter and it seems fine. No sound. No clicking (except for 1 single relay at power on). No video.
But there ain't no more $20 parts around for this thing.
Bought a remote for $45 which I can easily resell.
I have a 46inch LCD which is fine, but I don't mind putting a little into this. Considering newish 55 inch TVs are $400ish are aplenty on craigslist, it makes me wonder how much I really want or need this.
I wasn't pleased with the heat output of my prior 42 inch plasma several years ago - which I abandoned in a recent move, as it had a blank screen.
The MAIN BOARD for this is going to be $90, and with a tiny bit of work, I may have this beast working for $150.
I don't think I'll ever buy another Samsung item. Had 2 LCDs crap out at my restaurant, and a fail on a front loading washer.
If I get this working, I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed for the next inevitable issue.
