HDR too dim on Samsung Mu6300 Xbox One X
Hi, I have a 2017 Samsung MU6300 connected to my Xbox One X and I play Forza Motorsport 7 which is a 4K HDR game.
HDR is enabled for input 1 where the Xbox is connected to. Game mode is also on. Backlight and contrast are both at Max. Contrast Enhancer is off
because Xbox calibration software recommends Contrast Enhancer to stay off. When I am on the Xbox dashboard, everything looks beautiful with Contrast Enhancer being off. However, once the game is launched, TV detects the HDR signal, loads the game but the picture becomes dim. The only way to make the picture brighter is to set the Contrast Enhancer to low.
With Contrast Enhancer set at low, game looks brighter but I also notice the sun on the sky no longer looks round. sunset doesn’t look as accurate and beautiful as it does when Contrast Enhancer is turned off either. Clouds on the sky suffer to with Contrast Enhancer being at low. CE at high is a no go. The MU6300 has no local dimming to take advantage of unlike the more expensive Samsung TVs.
TV has the latest firmware version which ver. 1151.
Xbox and the game both have the latest updates installed.
I’m sure the TV is properly connected to the Xbox because Xbox displays green checkmark next to everything such 4K, HDR. Tried enabling / disabling YCC 4:2:2 to no change. Xbox is set for HDR 10 correctly.
I’ve factory reset both the Xbox and the TV several times and even tried connecting the HDMI cable to all 3 input on the back of the TV.
For me, The only way to make HDR brighter is to turn Contrast Enhancer on and accept the bad results.
Is there a way to make HDR brighter without having to turn Contrast Enhancer on?
By the way, it’s not just this game, Xbox version of Netflix which detects the HDR signal too has the same issue.
Please help !
