LCR positioning nightmare - Suggestions?!?!
My living room / Kitchen tv area is nearing renovation completion is in need of some new speakers. I have a dedicated theater so don't need perfect 5.1 or better but i do watch a lot of TV here an want a decent 5.1 sound stage. As you can see from the photo i have problems with doors and my MLP is offset to the TV. The room is very long and only about 12' from tv wall to MLP wall. There is a recliner very offset and the kitchen table is very offset in the other direction. The TV wall is 20' high and has an open balcony over the right doorway and TV.
I'm thinking i want to go with either an on wall system like the KEF 301 or in walls (leaning to KEF). The current big box towers need to go as they are in the way and sound doesn't get through the furniture well. The french doors are usually open. I wanted to take them out, move the TV over and problem would be solved but the wife squashed that instantly.
So the picture shows what i'm thinking for options.
1) is easy, symmetrical, and the speakers will "hide" next to the TV. Downside is i think the sound stage will be too narrow for that wide of a room. But does it matter for a room where i'm watching sports and discovery channel shows? Occasionally a network drama. No movies. Also a lot of music for the whole room + kitchen.
2) widens the sound stage but isn't symmetrical and the speakers are hanging out by themselves. If i go this option will probably have to go with in walls but not sure what the wall cavities look like next to the doors.
3) go with something that is elevated and pointed down up high. This could also work but i feel like music into the kitchen will not be good.
