Mix 'n Match with no "high end" equipment to achieve good sound

Introductions | Audiokarma Home Audio Stereo Discussion Forums - audiokarma.org
Hi, new to this but have been visiting for years. Just thought I'd share my experiences with average equipment which are probably within everyone's reach pricewise.

I've never had that much spare cash to splash out on expensive equipment so have always "made do" and tried various ways of just tweaking what I already had although I should point out that I have been through quite a number of different set ups along the way....

Now I've settled myself and am really enjoying what I use at the moment : Technics SL1200 MkII (with Vibro Stop platter mat combined with the original rubber mat), SME 3009 Improved with a Shure V15 Type III with original HE stylus, Roksan Kandy KC1 MkIII Cd player, Pioneer A757R Amplifier, Chord C-Line Interconnects, Linn Speaker Cable connected to a pair of Celestion A2's.

I'm not sure how I got to this but to my ears this is the best sound I've found for years, with the Pioneer jumping all over the Roksan Kandy KA1 MkIII which I was previously using with cd player.

Should this combination really work? as from other forums I've read it seems like it shouldn't.
