Need new equip. Help!
On Nov. 7th of 2017 I had a house fire and ended up losing almost everything I owned. In that house I didn?t have anything special. I only had a 5.1 sony surround sound system that my boss at the time gave me because he was upgrading. This was my first ever surround system and I enjoyed it a lot. I?m finally settling in to my new house and am thinking about starting a basic home theater. I had renters insurance which has helped to replace most of what I lost. I bought 3 new 4K big screens (only one with HDR), all with their brand specific sound bars and 4K Blu-ray players. As I watch movies or listen to a new album in my living room I find myself missing my surround sound system. I have plenty of insurance money left to spend but I?m no audiophile and just want some bang for my buck. I?d like to stay around $1500. I watch movies and tv, yes, but I?m more of a music guy. Live recordings of the Grateful Dead, Allman Bros, Widespread Panic, etc. are my go to. As well as, newer jam bands, indie and alt rock, and bluegrass tunes. I often have friends over and we buy live streamings of concerts we couldn?t attend in person. I play vinyl as well as digital formats. Can someone recommend some gear for me? I have plenty of space for floor/tower speakers, shelf speakers, and anything else. I?d love to go 7.1. I?m open to the idea of starting with a 5.1 expandable to 7.1 enable to get a better sound quality from the start. I do have some older Sony component equipment I recently bought but it?s from the 80?s (I?ll list at the end) but it didn?t come with speakers. If any of this gear will work let me know. Otherwise please help! I?m clueless as to what to look for, what all the specs mean, what?s considered ?good?, and what?s a good dollar to sound quality value.
Sony Component System:
Integrated stereo amp: ta-ax520
Stereo cassette deck: tc-w5
FM stereo/FM-AM tuber: st-jx520
Graphic equalizer: Seq-120
Stereo turntable system: ps-fL7II
CD player: cdp-70
Again no speakers
Recap.. looking for recommendations on a surround sound system that favors music more so than movies. $1500+/- budget. Intended room is large with lots of space. Have some older comp. equip but don?t mind buying all new stuff and using what I already have elsewhere in the house strictly for music. Thanks everyone.
