The power of a song...
Well, something is prompting me to post this.
Ever have a certain song hit you in the guts?
This song did for me.
I picked up a Who compilation at a thrift store, and there were a couple new songs on it ..new to me..
About three of them, and they are all wonderful.
One of them stuck me as odd, so I did a little research and found out what I could about it..Although the song is self explanatory.
The subject mater of the song is terribly gut wrenching , I guess because I've been in the process of unpacking these terrible bags in my life and cleaning house and throwing JUNK away..
more could be said.
Anyway, looking into this song Pete Townshend wrote, called Real good looking Boy. He tell the story of seeing Elvis and saying that to himself.. Then it quickly moves onto seeing himself and thinking he looks great. He's enjoying the music he's making, and it's working out for him.
Then the song turns to something his mother tells him.
I'll let you hear that in the song..
Then in the end of the song, where his love gives grace and healing to him.
Maybe I'm wrong... but for me, this song is about overcoming shame, something Ive had to deal with too. Not about my appearance, but other things. You can shame someone in many different ways... it's a very deep subject. Can you find artists writing songs like this today? Maybe somewhere...I don't hear them.
This is an acoustic version.
