How to prevent edge from crashing?

Edge 810 - forums.garmin.com
Two weeks ago I was participating in a relay of 570km in 50 hours. I guided the runners and have an edge 810 to record the workout. I did six of twelve shifts and about every kilometer i hit the round button when runners change. Live track was also being used for the home front. A second identical edge was used just for recording and as backup for the map.

The first edge crashed 13(!) times during the event, at least 2 times each shift. The second one 5 times. Most of the time the edge hang first for a few seconds, then it turned itselve off. After repairing some .fit files I noticed that GPS data was failing much earlier in some cases, but not in all.

The strange thing is, the weekend before I rode about 360km in 3 days without any failure.

Both are running 6.10, the first is being used regularly for 4 years now, crashed only 2 or 3 times before. The 2nd one is rarely used, 2 years old and to my knowledge has never crashed before.

What can I do about the crashes? I mean, can I do something to prevent the edge from crashing?
