Testing modified MartyCube vs Sealed

DIY Speakers and Subs - www.avsforum.com
Hi everybody,

I’m trying to come out with a modified MartyCube that will allow me to fit 4 of these in my room

I already have a 4cu sealed UXL-18 powered by an EP4000 and trully like it but i’m curious and want to hear the UXL in a ported desing.

So, while i’m waiting for my 3 UXL from the group buy and have plenty of time to play around with MDF, i thought i would build a modified MartyCube, remove the UXL from the sealed box, mount it in the Cube, do some measurements and EQ’ing to see which sub sounds the best in my room. Then i'll decide if i fill the room with either 4 sealed or 4 modified MartyCube

After reading the MartyFAQ, i came up with this modified MartyCube (see attached pic, Sorry, i suck at Google SketchUp ). I'll be using 3/4'' MDF.

On the original MartyCube, the port seems to be 39’’long ( 21.25’’deep + 17.75’’ high) X 22.5’’wide (24’’ minus slot braces width) X 2’’ high.

I understand that i need to keep the same cross area and port length in order to keep the same tuning freq.

So my port would be 39’’long X 17’’ wide ( 20’’ minus slot braces and box sides) X 2.65’’ high.

I’ve use those numbers in WinISD and everything seems fine but i want to check with you guys that i’m not missing something before i start cutting wood
