Updating Apps/Netflix on Standalone Blu-ray Player
I have a question for the bit more knowledgeable about these things...
I'm asking for someone in my family, because I still use a PlayStation 3 for Blu-ray and Netflix. But I noticed on their Blu-ray player, which is a Panasonic DMP-BDT230, that the version of Netflix they use is severely outdated. It's very "Beta" looking, likely because it's from about 4 years ago, and because of that its features and functionality aren't up to date either. And now that Netflix had some significant changes, such as ditching the global star-rating and replacing it with personal thumbs up and down ratings, it's especially outdated.
So I'm wondering; Isn't this software supposed to update or does this type of software just get outdated and left behind along with the hardware? - It is connected to the internet, obviously, but I couldn't really find anything to update the software apart from the general software/firmware, which I believe it claims is the latest version.
Unless I've overlooked it.
The problem with these players, which is also the reason I don't really like them, is that the software on them is quite simplistic and tends to be bad in design and leaves features out as well. It would be especially poor support if it didn't have a way to update any of the software that's constantly changing and ongoing.
Is there a way?...
(Just to note; The software dóes work, like Netflix, it simply plays and so on, but it looks and feels like you're back in 2013 or so...)
